From Mike: Update

Dawn has been diagnosed with a new liver disease, veno-occlusive disease (VOD). It's a condition where some of the small veins in the liver become blocked. The disease can spread to other organs. In transplant patients, it's usually caused by the high dose chemotherapy.

There is no FDA approved treatment for this disease but there is a clinical trial that began last week at MUSC for a drug called Defibrotide. This new drug has shown very promising results in other clinical trials.

Dawn has fluid around the lungs again making breathing painful and difficult. She's been in a lot of pain recently. Fluid retention is a side effect of VOD. Not much other information right now, hopefully we'll know more in the next few days.

All I can say is God must have some GREAT plans for you. The Bible says "the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy" and he has been working very hard but Jesus said "I have come to give you life and that more abundantly". Calll to Him for He has a great plan for you. Put on the whole armor and stand. He says "All things are possible if we only believe" I believe and thank Him for it now in the midst of your trial. Don't give up for we are praying for you. love you, Aunt Gloria from Houston, TX

I know your mom has the hope and grace, which leads me to believe that you do as well! Take care and get some rest. We will continue to offer up daily prayers for you as well.
